About the DeWalt 36V Battery Technology

The DeWalt 36 Volt History
When DeWalt began looking for a new battery technology to power its 36V line of tools, it researched thousands of different lithium-ion
formulas and did not find anything on the shelf that met its high standards or that fit the needs of its professional end-users.
DeWalt is laser-focused on developing innovative solutions that provide increased productivity and efficiency on the jobsite,
and would not settle for a technology that did not meet professional user needs.

DeWalt & A123Systems
DeWalt partnered with A123Systems, a developer of a new generation of lithium-ion batteries that incorporate nanoscale electrode technology
developed at and exclusively licensed from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). These batteries deliver unprecedented power,
runtime and durability as compared to conventional lithium technology.

Power tools are a very demanding application for batteries, and require increased levels of power and durability much more than what is
needed for cell phones and laptops. Additionally, power tools are exposed to the harsh environment of a jobsite and need to have the
durability to meet professional user needs. To address these issues, DeWalt designed the 36V platform from the ground up and put them
through rigorous testing before coming to market to address these issues, ensuring the tools meet professional user needs on the jobsite.

DeWalt 36 Volt Features & Benefits
The 36V tools provide professional contractors with increased levels of power, runtime and durability at a similar or less weight
than their corded counterparts. The line includes a hammerdrill, reciprocating saw, circular saw, impact wrench, rotary hammer, jigsaw,
flashlight and combo kits.
In addition to the battery technology, DeWalt built the tools with innovative features. The new features were designed to ensure that
the 36V platform would provide users with a complete solution to performing heavy-duty corded applications without a cord. For example,
the DC300K, 36V circular saw is a full-sized cordless circular saw, operating with a 7-1/4" blade, and the DC232KL, 36V rotary hammer
is equipped with a patented SHOCKS Active Vibration Control which helps to reduce vibration.
Independent third part testing found that the DeWalt 36V platform provides the application performance of corded tools,
while delivering 2-3 times more run time than 18V tools.
